HILLSBORO, TEXAS—As we prepare for the fall semester, dual credit students are encouraged to complete the application process by the first of August.

Dual credit is an opportunity in which a high school student registers in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school. While dual credit courses are often taught on the secondary school campus to high school students only, a high school student can also take a course on the college campus or online and receive both high school and college credit. Collectively, Hill College works with 28 independent school districts and numerous homeschools in our five-county service area, enrolling over 1,500 dual credit students this past semester. The degree programs at Hill College are organized into four different career pathways: Arts & Humanities, STEM, Business & Industry, and Health & Public Service and provide both academic and technical courses to dual credit students.

The process of applying begins by communicating with a student’s high school counselor to find out which courses are available and accommodate the student’s schedule. The next step is to complete an application on www.applytexas.org and a permission form at hillcollege.edu/dualcredit. The high school counselor will submit any required transcripts and test scores. The next step in the process is registering via MyRebel or with a high school counselor. Lastly, payment can be made via MyRebel or by calling the business office. Payment plans are also available.

“We encourage all new dual credit students to complete the application process and submit all paperwork to the dual credit office before they return to school in August.  This will ensure that the student will be able to transition to the registration process and register for fall classes seamlessly,” said Regina Paneitz, director of dual credit.
